Front brake upgrade

The front rotors on the VC were worn & scored - and new stock ones aren't easily available ...

These rotors had seen better days - past the wear limit and deeply scored.  4cyl Commodores of this model use solid discs and these are no longer available.  It looks like the best option will be to upgrade to the 6cyl/V8 type vented rotors along with the calipers and flexible hoses.

Some calipers from a 6cyl Commie were sourced - they are physically bigger and use a twin piston sliding setup rather than the single piston 4cyl type.

They bolt on to the same mountings, but it looks like we're going to run into clearance problems with the wheels.

Yeah - the 4cyl Commie uses 13" wheels rather than the 14" on 6cyl models.  Caliper is hard against the inside of the wheel.  So, its out with the BIG angle grinder to shave some serious meat off the outside of those calipers ...... kidding.

With some 14" wheels in place, you can see ample clearance around the caliper.  This upgrade may be put on hold for a little while until we can organise some 14" wheels.

Bit of a shame, because the 13" tyres are all good and the car looks great with it's original wheels & hubcaps.
